(Words and photos by Joe Grippo) – Maple Grove Raceway is tucked away in the rolling Pennsylvania hillside and boasts a long history of Ford-only drag racing having hosted the infamous Ford Motorsport nationals for many years. That race took a hiatus for few years and it is back now rebadged as Fun Ford Weekend, a celebration of the blue oval on the drag strip and the showfield. Scheduled for a full weekend, unfortunately persistent rains washed away the Saturday portion turning Fun Ford Weekend into fun Ford Sunday. A healthy selection of new and old Fords poured into the Grove filling a variety of classes for the bracket race portion. Heads up fans watched the MustangGuys.com 5.0 Shootout which featured new school Coyote engines against old school Windsor based power plants and Tough Truck had Lightning F-150ís battling big Powerstroke F-250ís. Good stuff.
The show folks had plenty of iron to ogle over in the Car show area aptly handled by the members of the Berks County Mustang Club. Many classes for all years and models of Mustangs and classic Fords of all types were filled with shined up examples vying for the show award hardware. Thanks go out to Manderbach Ford, MustangGuys.com and S&W Race Cars for the support of this growing Fun Ford series be sure to check it out if it comes to your local track.
