This is a spectacular video because it is all the stuff you want and none of the stuff you don’t. No music, no graphics, no junk, jut a very real look at what life is like driving a nostalgia funny car with an alcohol burning hemi at your feet. Wow this is good! The car in question is the beautiful Time Bomb Vega. This machine is owned by Rocky Roxlau and driven by Bob Toth. It is Bob’s noggin that looks like the top of a lollipop with that orange helmet on.
The car is one of the most immaculate pieces I have ever seen in person and while I was not at the race they were running at Quaker City Dragway on this weekend, I have announced this baby going down the strip in Epping more than once. The only thing you need to know about how nice this car is sits right in front of the camera. Every piece of tin inside the body is polished to a mirror finish. Seriously, once you see that you kind of know that these guys have nice junk.
As mentioned, this video was taken at the big funny car meet held at Quaker City Dragway in Ohio. How can you tell it is Quaker City? How about the famous “uphill” staging lanes and burnout area?! Gotta love it. You cannot hear him but Bret Kepner was calling the action at this race and he said it was a good one for sure.
The thing I really love about this video is that we get the whole ride from lowering the body, to the burnout (which is completely excellent), to the run, and even in the shutdown area. Lots of times that stuff can be boring but with this, I watched it all the way through. Camera placement is great as you get to sense the speed and fury of the car and you can also see Bob working as well. If you have wanted to drive a funny car previously, once you get a load of this video you’ll really be jonesing to have the body lowered down over you!
I had a funny car body lowered over me once while I sat in a 71 Satellite funny car at a car show… it was absolutely amazing.
In retrospect it was probably a good thing the cage and seat were far too narrow for this short, fat, wide shouldered guy to get into… The car was for sale at the time…. Hmmmm. Missed opportunity ?
Gotta love the 1/8th mile plus burnout.
Sweet!
