(Photos by Wes Allison) – It was a wild finale in the nitro funny car final round at the 2017 Good Vibrations March Meet where Canada’s Ryan Hodgson defeated Kris Krabill for the win. That wasn’t the wild part. Krabill’s car erupted into flames down track and while he was OK it appears that the body is junk and Bucky Austin the car owner will be in the market for a replacement before its next outing. Kraal was OK after the incident but the car will be a thorough going through before it turns a wheel again.

The class was about lots more than just a fiery final round, though as all time elapsed time records fell, the quality of competition was very high, there were upsets throughout the eliminator, and crowds continued to love the machines.

As you will see in these photos, some bodies are more nostalgic that others and you be on whatever side of that debate you want to be on. What we know is that guys like Matt Bynum who is on the crew of the DHL NHRA funny car was driving this weekend and loving life. Plenty of NHRA regulars could be found in the pits wrenching on stuff, driving stuff, or just enjoying the atmosphere that the March Meet exudes.
