If the No-Prep drag racing season has a true kick off event it is the Fat Tuesday race at Hub City Dragway in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. For the last several years this one has gotten lots of attention for drawing killer cars, having some exciting action, and serving as the debut spot for new cars, new power plants, and new teams. While this year it seems the buzz was all about the competition level, there was plenty of cool cars there to check out. One particular match up that got the attention of Urban Hillbilly Action Videos is featured below and it was the great slugfest between Swamp Thing and the Godfather Camaro.
No-Prep racing has really come into its own and 2017 will be an interesting year to see how it sustains itself. There are now more no-prep cars, no prep events, and even a coupe of no-prep series that racers can participate in. The major question that most people have is whether or not the trend has the staying power and fan base to keep growing by the leaps and bounds that it has been. We can tell you this, if the action is like the pair below, the sky is the limit.
Like anything in drag racing, the more people do it the better they get and the more information they have about the activity. There’s actually very little going on in this pair that even lets on that either driver is on a no-prep surface. The speaks to the quality of the chassis setup and the drivers in our eyes.
Two cool old Chevys, two big nitrous engines, header flames on both sides, no clocks, nothing but a green light and a win light. How basically sweet is that? Drag racing in its most pure form and being held at a drag strip instead of the street. That’s the definition of a win in our book.
