Slo-Mo Video Perfection: 427ci, A Four Speed, A Wheelie, And All On Hammerhead IRS!

Slo-Mo Video Perfection: 427ci, A Four Speed, A Wheelie, And All On Hammerhead IRS!

Our pals at Hammerhead IRS shot us a link to the video below and we know that our big block loving, wheelie appreciating, four speed hammering readership would be totally into it. The Hammerhead IRS guys build what we think is the best hardcore IRS on the market and they have been putting their stuff under some really serious cars. People think that you need to swap a stick axle under stuff at the drags and the reality is that you can stick with your IRS and have the reliability and performance (perhaps MORE performance) with it than other options.

Take this car for example. Owned and driven by Brett Saurbaugh it is as hardcore a stocker as you are going to find and it is pretty violent. A tri-power 427, a four speed, and sticky slicks mean that there’s no give anywhere in the driveline. Under normal circumstances with stock stuff this would be a recipe for disaster. Not anymore.

These guys have worked for years refining their product and the results have shown themselves under a bunch of hardcore late model muscle cars like hemi Mopars, a load of killer pro touring cars, and now their stuff is hitting the drag strip with ferocity now.

It’s got a lot of wheel spin. gotta wonder what his 60’is. I watched Bernnie Agerman(?) run a 70 model Vette in the 70s. Just have to carry lots of axle shafts. Larry 2206 G/SA

That is really a neat deal, coming up with that diff casting/assy plan and having it done in capable U.S. shops. Great to see they based it on a 12-bolt, too.
