Hard Shot: Here’s What Happens With A Nitrous Crazed Grudge Car Busts The Tires Loose – BAM!

Hard Shot: Here’s What Happens With A Nitrous Crazed Grudge Car Busts The Tires Loose – BAM!

Grude racing, no time racing, whatever you want to call it is the hottest segment in the world of drag racing today. Seemingly every track across the country is running programs where cars like these can show up and do battle off the streets and in a place where they belong. From Fontana, California to the deep south the clocks and score boards are being shut down and the stakes continue to skyrocket up. As is normally the case, the cars continue to get faster and faster, the builds continue to get more serious, and as you will see in this video, the potential for mangling stuff is ever-present as well.

This video was taken by  the great NitroArtVideo channel on YouTube at Carolina Dragway, the famed “House of Hook”. As is the tradition in grade racing the two cars competing have names. Candy Crusher and Showtime Racing. The good news here is that no one was injured and just the car was torn up. The bad news here is that the car was torn up.

This is a battle of power adders and a battle of popular chassis. Fox Mustang versus Chevy Malibu. Turbos for the Mustang and nitrous for the Malibu. Wait until you see the purge show that the Malibu puts on at the starting line. We’ve never seen something so dramatic and awesome out of a nitrous car just purging the stuff! Coming off the starting line the Malibu looks even meaner spouting header flames out of the upturned “bull horn” style pipes that the car has mounted high on the front fender.

It leaves like it means it and seems to be every bit the match for the Mustang and then all go a sudden (perhaps when the second kit came on?) the Malibu busts the tires loose, pivots sideways, and mashes into the wall. You’ll see just how banged up the thing is as they drag it onto the ramp truck. We’re hoping they get it fixed and back out thee again.

Part of the reason grudge racing is so popular is because it is wildly unpredictable. This video reinforces that fact.

I just don’t get a track leaving all those people stand at the starting line. Am I just over cautious old fart?

  2. Danno

Bob, we are both old farts cause I totally agree with you. This dangerous behavior comes from street racing. I am guessing tracks are allowing this as having all these street and grudge racers means $ in the pockets of truck owners/promoters. If you have ever watched videos of street races it is not uncommon to not only have lots of people on the starting line but often on both sides of the street. Had this incident occurred on the street there likely would have been multiple fatalities. Guess we should get thankful that the racers WERE on a track on not the street.

As for all the people on the starting line at tracks this likely will continue at grudge tracks (non NHRA certified) until a catastrophe occurs such as a major driveline or transmission failure sending shrapnel into the crowd. And all the money the track made will be gone defending the lawsuits that undoubtedly will follow.

I guess that is part of being an old fart. Experience.

Oh, and the wreck? There wasn’t a thing the driver could have done to prevent it. The car went sideways too fast for any driver to have saved it.

I agree with both Bob and Danno on this issue of too many people standing around the starting line, not only do they put themselves at risk with flying shrapnel, but with the Covid 19 as well. Shit like this is why we are seeing spikes in Covid 19 because of dumbasses like these.
