History’s Mysteries: The History Of This Radical Center Steer 1971 Pinto Drag Car Is Awesome!

Our buddy Tommy Lee Byrd is killing it with his Hot Rod Hoarder YouTube Channel and we consistently love the content he is putting out. As you know by now, Tommy and his dad buy and sell lots of amazing stuff. They have found old hot rods, race cars, parts, and piece that would make your eyes water if you saw even 10% of it. Beyond finding the stuff, Tommy always tries to discern its history. He has done this several times now and the stories are always fascinating. From that old dragster they dragged out of the woods to a wayward funny car body, he gets to the bottom of stuff and that’s what this episode is all about.

Byrd and his dad scored a super cool and very unique 1971 Pinto that was home-built with a neat center-steer chassis. The car was legal to run as an Econo-Altered back in the day but was mostly bracket raced. 100% home built and packing a 351 Cleveland for power, this was a cool car that without this research and video no one would really ever know existed.

From the story of how they came up with the components to make the rear suspension to the fact that the daughter of the original builder/racer reached out to Tommy to share some memories, this is truly great stuff. We bet this thing was a riot to drive as well!
