Five Shifters For $5,000 – This Guy Has His Hurst Lightning Rods Collection For Sale

Five Shifters For $5,000 – This Guy Has His Hurst Lightning Rods Collection For Sale

Ever hear the expression that there’s a fine line between hobby and mental illness? I was thinking that when I saw this eBay ad listing FIVE yes FIVE Hurst Lightning Rods shifters for sale at the same time. These babies seem to be going as a group only and the dude knows that they are not easy to find. He wants $5,000 bucks for all five shifters with a couple of the console shift plates included.

Interestingly among the group there are shifters designed for three speed AND four speed automatics. We’re guessing that the three speeds were sold by Hurst in speed shops and stuff as the four speed shifters were used with the overdrive automatic transmissions used in the factory built Hurst/Olds G-bodied. Now, we could be massively wrong and probably are so feet free and tell us that.

A couple of things. First is that we’re wondering if this guy worked in a wrecking yard or something and was able to scarf these things up when they came in and then horde them away. Second, doesn’t it seem like these things are sitting on the kind of meat freezer you could stuff a body into? Third, out of the five we wonder how many are actually fully functional. They all appear to be in different states of “nick” as the English would say.

Pretty wild stuff and a savvy person could likely turn that $5,000 into more by scoring these, cleaning them all up, and asking more dough, right? Oddly the wife was not as interested in going into the low volume, limited edition shifter business as I was.

Oh well, my loss is your gain!

This guy is the local G-body parts hoarder. He has tons of hard to find A and G body parts. If you find a G-body in a local wrecking yard missing the steering column and swing set, then it was probably a stick shift and he now has all the parts. He’s a truck driver, so his picking area is huge.

for 5k l’d rather get a running, driving 442/H.O. that already has the shifter instead of shelf trophies……

True mental illness would be fitting all these shifters to one car and driving around changing gears like a demented octopus!
