There’s something to be said about developing a reputation, especially if it is a positive one. Mark Rebilas has certainly done that over his career as a sports photographer. While drag racing his is passion, he also shoots MLB, NFL, big fights, and other forms of racing as well. Going back to the point of reputation, though. When something crazy happens at an NHRA event, everyone’s first thought centers around whether or not Rebilas “got it”. He did last weekend as Rebilas captured the entire Steve Collier blow over in Topeka.
The image below shares Mark’s own words about setting up in the area where he would ultimately capture this insanity. Read it, hit the link below and see every frame of this jaw dropping scene. Did Mark get it? Oh, he got it alright.
Amazing work by photographer Rebilas. Even switching cameras in the middle of sequence. Also, the chutes never deploy at any time during the entire crazy gyrations, and the driver did great to keep his limbs inside of the protective cage. Glad to hear that he will make a recovery from this.
Awesome sequence…the vertical-and-completely-airborne-at-219 shot is wild. Didn’t Mark Rebilas shoot a similarly amazing sequence of Larry Dixon blowing over and/or crashing a couple of years ago? Great stuff…
