Just A Bit Too Much Throttle: Watch As The “50 Shades Of Gray” Monte Carlo Gets Loose And Nearly Takes Out The “Swamp Thing” Nova Wagon!

When the track starts getting good, the tires are doing their thing properly and everything starts feeling right, the next logical move in a no-prep race is to start feeding in power to see just how far you can push the envelope. The guessing game of just how much power to add is a touchy one: you want to be able to overrule your competition, but you don’t want to dance on the wrong side of the line when it comes to controllability. 1320Video recently caught a reminder of why not at the No Prep Mayhem race in Wichita. Ken Clark’s “Swamp Thing” Chevy Nova long roof was paired up against the “50 Shades of Gray” Monte Carlo, a car known for having massive power no matter the weather. When the Monte starts getting squirrelly, things go from bad (when the Monte’s right quarter slaps the wall) to nearly disastrous when it looks like the gray Chevy is going to take out the wagon. By a narrow, narrow margin the Nova manages to squeak past before the Monte Carlo changes up it’s slide and taps the other quarter against the wall!
