Piston Tech Video: Mahle Motorsport Looks At Oil Support Rings – Why They’re There And What They Do

Here’s some cool and basic tech video from our pals at Mahle Motorsport. This video talks about oil support rings, what they do and why they exist. For those of you out there that are seasoned engine builders you probably know a lot of this stuff but for those of you that aren’t, this is a cool video that talks about an integral part of your engine’s piston package depending on your application. We’re not going to totally steal the punch line here but the basic idea behind an oil support ring comes into play when the ring land is “interrupted” by the bore where the piston pin lives. This is a common scenario when you are running a long rod stroker application where the pin needs to be relocated up into an area that is normally uninterrupted in “normal” applications.

For those of you out there that want to learn “engine stuff” this is a great piece that may explain something that you either didn’t know about or didn’t fully grasp. For those of you that are bolting engines together like it is going out of style, you get to oogle a sweet Mahle piston so everyone’s a winner here.
