(Photos by Bob Paxton) – Here’s our second and final collection of photos from the awesome Kontinentals Car Club Day of the Drag Race event which was held at the eternally cool Little River Dragway in Temple, Texas. In this gallery we have everything from the coolest junior dragster ever built to some of the neatest old rickety looking hot rods you have ever seen roll down the strip. This is not an event about money, about huge trophies, or about setting low elapsed time or top speed of the meet. Nope, this event is just about getting together and having big fun in a laid back, old school, throwback kind of setting. We have been showing you photos from this race for several years now and more and more neat stuff continues to show up to keep the show fresh and fun. The junior dragster we mentioned is an awesome slingshot style car that is in a few photos. Back in 1971 Mickey Thompson sold cars virtually identical to the one you will see here for $395. They had a tube chassis, a fiberglass body, and a 3hp Briggs and Stratton engine. The package you’ll see here can surely scoot harder than that but it has the same awesome look.
If you needed any encouragement to put this event on your schedule for next year, let these photos push you over the edge. We know that we’re jealous of Paxton for being there!
Nice pics. We see most of these cars every year at North Star for the Texas Thaw
Bob, these are great pictures. I have only ever seen pix of that track from the left side showing the tower and never from the right side or behind the starting line. What a cool place and perfect spot of a cool event like that.
