(Photos by Mike Brooks) – It was a good old fashioned drag strip brawl at Lancaster Dragway’s pro mod shootout a short while back. Held on a weekday night, the place was filled, there was a spectacular field of cars, and there was a general feeling of revitalization at the historic strip outside of Buffalo, New York. Mike Brooks was there blasting photos for us and he said it was one heck of a show with great sportsman racing and more than a dozen pro mods on the ground running for the $5,000 to win prize.
If you’ll remember, Lancaster Speedway came up for sale by the previous owner and there was some uncertainty as to whether the place would continue to operate or get plowed over for some junk like stores, etc. New ownership, new management, and hard work have set the track on the course to success and this show was an exclamation as to their serious intentions in giving the racers of the greater Buffalo area a quality place to drag race. It has been a staple in the community since the 1950s and its potential loss last year was bad but new life and hard work have gotten the ship clearly rolling in the right direction now.
When you see the photos of the car and the packed stands, remember this was a TUESDAY night. If you give the fans something to see, they will show up to watch!
