(Photos by Wes Allison) – If there is one thing that happens more than anything else at Lights Out, Sweet 16, and No Mercy, it is wrenching. These eighth-mile bombs are in need of constant care and attention and some of the best minds in drag racing provide it time and time again when things don’t go according to plan on the track. Breaking parts is part of drag racing because of the fact that everyone is leaning on their stuff so hard. This is not stock car racing, open wheel racing, or index drag racing. This is max-effort every pass style competition and sometimes the big engines are not man enough for the job, especially when the tune-up goes pear-shaped at some point in the effort.

This gallery of photos concentrates on the pits. The engines, the people, and the unity of those two things as they get service and and put back right. This is out last look at No Mercy 11 and for so many reasons, this is the most interesting one of all.
