Leah Ochs Suffers A Hard Hit In The Lead Sled Wagon In Texas – She Is OK, Wagon Hammered

Leah Ochs Suffers A Hard Hit In The Lead Sled Wagon In Texas – She Is OK, Wagon Hammered

(Video Credit: NXGonzoVideo channel YT) – The Lead Sled wagon is a fan favorite wherever it shows up to run. Last weekend it happened to be at the Texas Motorplex for the Redemption No Prep event. With small tires on the back, an Ochs Performance LSx engine on two stages of nitrous, and all that weight to transfer over the back tires, the car is normally stuck to the track and gone. Such was not the case in this video. You’ll see Lea Ochs wrestle the car nearly the whole way to the eighth mile finish line trying to stay out in front of the Mid-Life Crisis Corvette before the car made a move she could not recover from.

The wagon was swaying and yawing a bunch and then it got exponentially worse finally choosing to head all the way across the track from the left lane to the right wall. The car’s stiffness and rigidity are on full display as when the car went dead left it kept the passenger side rear tire hiked up in the air all the way across the track. She had all the steering in it that she could get and it just kept plowing straight ahead.

The thing that made this wreck even more immediately shocking for us and it took a second to decipher was the rear of the wagon popping open. At first you think that the whole car collapsed but it is just the rear hatch opening up and slamming back down upon impact. As you will see the car remained intact after the big hit.

It is reported that Lea hurt her arm but that was the extent of it. All forms of racing are dangerous (as we are seeing today) and we’re not of the mindset that no-prep is more dangerous than anything else. It is always scary when a car gets this long a run at a wall.

We’re glad Lea will be OK and we’re sure the Ochs Performance crew will be back.

    No Prep claims another.

Slow response from the safety crew . Good thing the car wasn’t on fire.

I think that short hop just before the green upset the suspension and put a strange load on it.

Its common for turbo cars to use a bump box to stage. But since this was a nitrous car, I think she just jumped the light and caught herself. The car didn’t start fishtailing until it reached the end of the pad.
