It’s OK Until It Isn’t – Watch This Grudge Camaro Nearly Wipe Out A Load Of People On The Starting Line

We bust the chops of rally fans who stand next to the course when cars go ripping by but we generally fail to bust the chops of starting line hangers at the drag strip who are cannon fodder if something goes wrong. Well this video is an example of just what can go wrong and thankfully here no one gets killed but they sure could have.

You are going to see a pair of grudge cars at track that’s completely unfamiliar to us. There’s a Monte Carlo and a Camaro getting ready to throw down. Both cars are in the process of doing their burnouts when the Camaro spits it’s left rear tire and wheel, sending it on a path into an assembled crowd at the starting line. The thing did not have much speed so people were able to shuck and jive without outgoing squashed but this does illustrate an important point. No one needs to be standing there.

Can we be done with this now? It was born from grudge racing and has kind of been played out all over the sport of drag racing already. So far no one has actually been killed (miracles!) and we’d prefer to not read headlines about that any time soon.

If you are going to be up there, at least be OUTSIDE the wall, k?

It’s not about what they see at the starting line, it’s about being seen at the starting line – idiots!

At a local track, a teen aged girl was standing behind 2 cars doing their burn outs. She was about 20-30 feet back when a rock or a chunk of rubber hit her in the fore head. She was very lucky needing only about 10 stitches & maybe a little plastic surgery……..

At our local track,I am always amazed that you see the same people week after week at the starting line, even though they are not with any car competing. I swear they think they have to be there for the whole event to happen. Normally 300 lbs or more, beard and their arms crossed. The older ones also have a grey pony tail to go along with the white beard

Remember back in the 50\’s & early 60\’s when it was common & acceptable to do your burn-outs in the staging lanes with cars & people in front of you? It took more than a few folks getting killed & maimed at a variety of tracks before this deadly practice was banned.

I like the races held at real race tracks and instead of using the tree some idjut runs out in front of cars with a flashlight to start the race. Real good place to get killed.

Oh, PS- “outside the wall” doesn’t apply because the whole track is still Armco guard rail from the water box to the finish line.
