It takes a special kind of maniac to enter his altered into a wheelstand contest in the first place but said maniac kicks it up like 50 notches when he pulls the wheelie bars off the car and gets all four wheels off the ground on purpose to win the deal. Such was the case at Firebird Raceway when racer Scott West showed up to play for the wheelstand contest. West is driving a super clean and very nice looking small block Chevy powered, 23 Ford bodied altered. The “Ford” body is an important distinction here because it has that tail section that west successfully uses as a giant lever to throw all four wheels of this car completely off the ground. The thing literally skids on that section for a second before smashing back down to Earth, crossing into the other (and unoccupied) lane. We’re not sure if West threw the parachute out on purpose or of it was dislodged during the melee that was his wheelie but wow, this is crazy.

The announcer seems to hint at the fact that something big was about to happen but he was playing his cards close enough to the vest for it to still shock us when West did a Saturn V rocket impression. This thing has plenty of power and that track had LOTS of hook on the starting line. Oh, and to whoever built then chassis, nice job! The car seems to have handled the brutally hard landing with a champ. We couldn’t see sparks or anything of that nature, which isn’t the only sign something would have been wrong, but the car did not end up in two pieces which was a miracle on its own.

Here’s to you Scott West! BangShift approved craziness on the drag strip is always welcome. You could take that act on the road if you wanted to, boss. We’d lay down a buck to watch that for sure. Repair bills may get steep but it’ll be fun while it lasts.
