Major Fail Video: Watch A Chevy From South America Botch A Burnout Attempt And Literally Shoot The Flywheel Out Of The Car!

Major Fail Video: Watch A Chevy From South America Botch A Burnout Attempt And Literally Shoot The Flywheel Out Of The Car!

We were tipped off to this crazy video by Norwegian BangShifter Arild Guldbrandsen and it is wild. The video shows and older South American (late 1960s?) Chevy coupe winding up and trying to do a burnout in the street in front of a house and failing badly at it. The tires never break loose, the motor winds up and all of a sudden you can see the flywheel literally rocket out from the car and crash into what we think is a house with comedic (but real) sounds. The shattering glass, clanking metal, and breaking parts noises are hilarious, assuming that the driver wasn’t hurt by the thing blowing up and flying out of the car.

This must be some sort of a common flaw with these cars because there are other videos showing the same situation. Guy dumps clutch, tires don’t spin, huge explosion happens, and parts bounce off the ground. Not an equation for fun with respect to the car owner, but it makes for great video. We’ve seen clutch explosions before but we have never seen a flywheel exit stage left like this one!

Really don’t care what happened to the idiot driver, more concerned about others in nearby home, etc. being injured. I experienced similar incident at Lions Dragstrip in 1965, except that I was in the line of fire. Mopar coughed out its flywheel, clutch and pressure plate off the pavement into the stands – right towards and over my head. It all turned to fragments when it hit the pavement. However, my friend was not as lucky and had a trip to hospital for stitches to a head wound from luckily a small piece of the mess. Driver and his buddy hauled ass and got out without any penalty and of course the strip operator knew nothing about identities, etc. So I have no sympathy for the reckless and stupid.

In 1968 I was at a drag strip in AL. While we were supposed to have scatter shields no one checked for them so we didn’t run them. I was behind a 55 Chevy that was one of the faster cars in the class. He made his pass and didn’t stop rolling into the sand at the end of the strip.
It turned out his clutch had exploded and cut his legs off. He survived but it cost him his legs.
The next week they were checking of scatter shields and we ALL had them.
