Making It Official Once Again: The World Record Australian Burnout At Summernats

Aussies and burnouts just go together. We can’t explain why the whole continent down there gets so psyched over roasting tires…we get it, doing a burnout is a freaking blast…but this year we might have the proof that Aussie gearheads…whoops, sorry, “revheads”…have forever cinched Australian motorsports with the absolute annihilation of tires in the name of good fun. One hundred and twenty-six cars squared up at Exhibition Park for a retaking of a title that had gone to Saudi Arabia two years ago when 119 cars went nuts for Saudi National Day. The Aussies have held the title prior to, and if you think they were going to relinquish the title easily…nope.

126 cars lined up down a drag strip and just about anywhere else they could stage up to haze the hides off presents quite a challenge. Fire and safety personnel have to be on point, there has to be coordination in the chaos of screaming engines and smoke, and importantly, there has to be proper verification, something that bit the one attempt at the title we know of in the United States. This one is official: 126 cars, one gigantic plume of smoke over Canberra. Who is going to try for the title next?

  1. Singapore Hot Rod

A few days ago there was an odd haze in the air here in Singapore. Must have been a northwest wind blowing from Australia.
