Two machines competing in the Hot Rod class at the 2015 Good Vibrations March Meet were involved in a pretty hardcore wreck on Friday. The red Chevelle reportedly suffered some sort of mechanical failure and came across the track, collecting up the little Chrysler A-Body and pile driving them both into the wall. We have heard from people at the event that both drivers were OK. Reportedly (and this is unverified) the Chrysler was out to the race all the way from Minnesota.
We feel bad when anyone suffers a crash, especially if they have come clear across the country for a fun and memorable weekend of drag racing. The Chevelle involved is the car that we are using in the lead photo of our “photo coverage” blog this week. It is a spectacular looking machine and hopefully it can be repaired and set back into racing form before long.
Tough break for both drivers. Watch it happen frame by frame here –
If you look close at the first pic it looks like the Chevelle has a broken tie rod on the left front. No matter what was the cause it’s too bad these two cars came together.
Good eye
oh what a pisser if that was my dart i would be like cooosfraaahbah cooooossfraaaabaaahh
uhhm whats the curse of the front page?
This is why I don’t like running no box with my 8.60 car. If one of those 5 or 6 second cars that are coming on me 30-40 mph faster has a problem – ouch. I wouldn’t see it coming so much
I would be very pissed if that was my Dart. and thinking about thumping a head or two. I know things happen but to get taken out by a competitor just sucks
I don’t see how the Chevelle could have done anything different and the Dart had no way out. Things break and sometimes you are just along for the ride. My wife parked her car in the wall a couple of years ago due to a broken strut rod. No control = no control. It could have been a hella lot worse for sure.

Yea, I’m running 8.15s right now against a lot of 5 and 6 second no box cars. I still wear a jacket, a really good SFI Bell helmet and cinch those belts. But I drive a big 4 door 3200 lb car, so I figure those light weight 2600 lb speedy cars might just bounce off. 🙂
why didn’t you show why the chevelle tie rod broke.. because he did a wheel stand and came down too hard. show all the pictures
