(Photos by Mark Rebilas Photography) – We’re always excited when we get a note slid under the door by super awesome shooter Mark Rebilas tipping us off to something he’s posted on his blog. See, Mark will often times go back over events that he has recently shot and pull out a highlight reel of images that he thinks are the best stuff of the bunch. As he was at the 60th Chevrolet Performance NHRA US Nationals for days on end like the rest of us, he was able to really let his creative side shine and it shows.

While we really enjoy Mark’s action photos, his “people photos” are really flipping awesome and this gallery is no exception. From portrait level stuff to candid photos of Gary Gerould (we all do actually call him the G-man and he’s the nicest person you’ve ever met) dancing with John Paul DeJoria at the end of the strip after Alexis closed the deal at Indy, this is a spectacular way to see many different sides of the event. The in-car photos of the top fuel and funny car drivers are stunning and we’ve included one of Tony Zizzo hamming it up a little before a run. We’re not professional photographers around here but outside of known the physical things that need to be right with the light and the lens and the f-stop (what the hell is that, again?) there’s also the need to a shooter to have a level of comfort with his subjects. Every photo of a person in this collection looks really natural or at least not stiffly staged. Why? Because people know that the guy is super good. They are comfortable with him doing his thing. That’s a pro.
