Best of 2018: Watch Mark Woorduff Make A 4,300hp Hub Dyno Pull At Hyperaktive Performance Solutions

Now THIS Is a dyno video. You are about to see Mark Woodruff make a 4,300hp hub dyno pull at Joe Oplawski’s Hyperaktive Performance Solutions shop in Illinois. These guys put a big Manline hub dyno in a few months ago and they have been using it for all kinds of awesome stuff. They have had multiple pro mods on it and as best we know this is the biggest horsepower Radial vs The World car they have challenged the machine with. Unlike a traditional roller dyno, in the case of a hub dyno the vehicle is literally fastened to the equipment.

There’s no way that the tires can spin and these things are insanely robust. We have seen pulling tractors on them laying down big numbers. Hyperaktive is one of the few places in the country that we know of who has one of these style dynos and they have certainly been putting it to good use.

So what’s the power plant here? You are looking at 522ci of Sonny Leonard “Next Generation” hemi headed beast. The turbochargers are big boys and as you can see, they are mounted as far out and as low as possible. As many of you who follow this style of racing understand, these cars rely on sticking that tire to the track and they have a propensity to wheelie. Getting all that mass low and out front helps to fight that.

It is pretty radical to watch the suspension go to work when the hammer is dropped and the pull is made. The car makes over 4,300hp at just under 9,000 RPM (disregard the 13,000 rpm readout, that was explored and cleaned up after the fact). How about the 1,800+ lb-ft of torque at about the same RPM, eh?

This is a car capable of running deep into the 3-second zone in the eighth mile and after watching all this happen, now you understand why. Bad to the bone!

Hub dynos are VERY COOL! I wish we had one in our area though at my HP levels what I have access to is adequate. I’m a little surprised that it didn’t wheelie on the dyno – do they tie the front down for safety (that would make sense)? The test subject seems pretty peppy!

I wonder how this one compares to a normal dyno. The hub dyno numbers I’ve seen were all comically inflated, as much as 13% or so.
