There was a song in the 1960s that implored listeners, “If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife…” and we hear it every time we look at this massive 1947 Cadillac sleeper run 11s at Atco Dragway in New Jersey. This thing is the definition of awesome. It is uglier than hell, it is the size of a battleship, and it is fast enough to mangle a LOT of anything that decides to run up against it on the street or the strip.
Mounting the 1947 Cadillac body on a a GM B-body frame and repowering the car with a single turbo boosted LQ9 engine results in the performance you see below. We love the fact that the car seems to be sinking into the Earth under its own weight and we love the fact that it has crummy looking wheels on the front with cheapo steel OEM wheels. There are a few videos of this car being tuned on the dyno rollers and cruising but the drag strip footage is our favorite, especially when the car is running next to come late model junk and you know the guy driving the late model performance car is sweating bullets when the big Cadillac does not disappear to his rear view mirror on the step of the throttle.
The LQ9 engine is an iron block based plant with 6.0L of displacement. It is a super popular mill to use for boost because of the strength of the block. We have no idea if the cathedral port heads are still on this engine or how much of the bottom end is stock but what does it matter? When you have a massive car that looks like it was dragged out of a horror movie and it runs like it was dragged off the set of a horror movie as well!
