Meltdown Drags 2015 Coverage: Here’s A Load Of Photos From The Pits – So Much Win

Meltdown Drags 2015 Coverage: Here’s A Load Of Photos From The Pits – So Much Win

(Photos by Greg and Jason Rourke) – Greg and Jason Rourke have been at the 2015 Meltdown Drags this weekend and after yesterday’s action gallery from the strip we decided that today would be a good day to show off some of the cool cars, trucks, and hot rods they saw in the pits. One of the things that makes the Meltdown Drags different than other events is the prevailing attitude and approach. This whole scene is designed to make Byron Dragway feel like it did back in the 1960s with all kinds of unique and interesting cars, a friendly attitude, and racers helping racers to get their cars down the track as quickly as possible.

As we said yesterday, people from all over the country have dragged their stuff to Illinois just to be a part of this thing. People have traveled from all over the world to spectate and hang out just to be a part of the whole experience. That is an incredible sign to us because it means that this event reaches people and signifies something to them that a normal drag race never would.

Greg and Jason have been crushing it with the photos and we’ll be running them through the entire week in the days ahead. It was a scorching hot weekend at Byron and everyone was having the time of their lives.

My dad and I attended our first Meltdown yesterday. Incredible event. He was an active participant back in the 60’s, but I wasn’t born until ’71. He and I are very close and do a lot together, but this was pretty special due to the environment. The Southeast Gasser group was particularly awesome. They put on a great show and were nice guys to boot! For those that can’t get enough, my pics for the day are linked below. Our next project is a Henry J gasser. I’m not really a purist, but intend to build it as we would of “back in the day”. My pics are biased toward the gassers, but I clicked anything that looked neat or had a cool feature. With any luck, we’ll be hanging the front tires and banging gears with these guys next summer!
