The line between loving and hating no-prep racing is giant and clear as day. Either you love the idea of forcing car and driver to take the racing surface, all of it, into a bigger consideration than someone on the strip may or you look at every car that lines up at one of these events, take notes, and wait for the moment the inevitable happens, so you can either swoop in for parts or to simply point a finger and say “Told you so!” There’s no happy middle ground whatsoever. Judging from the crowd at No Prep Mayhem, there’s plenty of people on side of the no-prep racers.
There’s plenty of racers out there who are willing to lay it out on the line no matter the circumstances, so long as there’s a place to race, money on the line and enough people willing to watch. Some do it as a point of pride: if you can put it down on an unworked surface, then you’ve got bigger bragging rights. We don’t care so long as everyone who lines up is willing to go all-out to win smartly…you accept the risk the moment you pull into the burnout box, now plant that power down and go be a hero!
