(By Tom Lohnes) – For the old men out there that think the Corvette Convertible or Porsche 911 Cabriolet are too mainstream, there has always been the Mercedes E-class Coupe and Cabriolet. With the recent refresh of the Mercedes-Benz E-class sedan and wagon, the 2-door variants that no one really buys have been refreshed as well.
Offering up to 430 horsepower, an AMG badge, and one of the coolest looking steering wheels out there right now, the 2021 Mercedes E53 coupe is the main focus of this article.
Packing an electric-assisted 3.0-liter Turbocharged Inline-6, the E53 is the first AMG version of the German brand’s midsize coupe. Nothing much has changed mechanically, but the E53 gets a new face, rear end, and side profile to match its new sporty design. Inside the E53, the cabin is lavishly upholstered in real leather and wood. The steering wheel is touch sensitive, and gives haptic feedback whenever you touch something. The E53 also adds a drive mode selector onto the wheel, and even an exhaust controller.
Now, what will all of this cost? The base E450 Should be about $65,000, as the AMG will be up in the $70,000 range. But, fully optioned up, a 2020 E53 is over $100,000. Is it safe to assume there will be a price raise? Yes.
