(VIDEO BY JACOB MARSHALL) – Our man Jacob Marshall’s visit to the Merrill Ice Drags last month is the gift that keeps on giving. We promised you video and here it is in the form of a compilation featuring many of the hard launching cars that were on the ice when Jacob was hanging out. As he mentioned in previous stories, some of these guys are running upwards of 140mph in the eighth mile on spiked car tires. How awesome is that? While we dig the center steer altered style of cars that occasionally pop up in the video, it is the full bodied stuff that has us completely in love. From the Opel GTs to the Mustang that looks like a top sportsman car, and the chopped hot rod, they really are great.
We have some more video coming tomorrow in the form of in-car footage that Jacob managed to get while at the event and wait until you see what it is like to wrestle one of these babies down the course. We won’t give away which car in this video is the one Marhall snuck a camera in, but the kid did it and the footage is flipping sweet. As we said last week, this is pure hot rodding and the whole deal embodies what lots of sportsman racing should be about at the end of the day. It is not about haulers, big name chassis builders, big name engine builders, or whatever else you want to brag on, it is about getting together, having fun and going fast. No one shows up at the Merrill Ice Drags to make a living and that’s what makes it so cool in our eyes. Big fun, pure competition, and lots of innovative thinking.
