(Photos by Mike Burghardt) – They deserve and they always will deserve their own coverage. The Mickey Thompson Top Fuel Harley Davidson category has been one of the most stunning additions to the NHRA lineup over the last five seasons because of the action on the track and the fan reaction off of it. These things literally stop traffic on good runs and they bring a drag strip to its knees on bad ones.
During the NHRA Magic Dry Northwest Nationals there was good, there was bad, and there was horrifically ugly. The good was Doug Vancil charging to a win on his Vance and Hines motorcycle. Vancil, one of the categories old lions still has what it takes in ever respect to win. The bad was the normal attitude of these bikes from spitting head gaskets out to trying to buck riders off, they are maniacal and scary at times. Lastly there was the horrifically ugly, which we have showed you in the form of Beau Lane’s crash. He somehow walked away and is still recovering, now back at home in California.
Mike Burghardt’s photos capture the fury of these machines and their colorful riders perfectly. Check ’em out below!
