More From The Ohio Mile – Bikes and Cars As Fast As Lightning at the ECTA Season Opening Meet

More From The Ohio Mile – Bikes and Cars As Fast As Lightning at the ECTA Season Opening Meet

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – When we go to the June event I’m bringing my db meter just to prove something.  I think the number 9000 Geo Metro is the loudest thing out there.  Those three little cylinders must be screaming for mercy along with the sounds of combustion.  The unofficial track-lapping machine has to be the number 9138 Mercedes.  If I remember correctly he tallied over 12 passes on Sunday alone.  Definitely getting his money’s worth at the Ohio Mile.

One car that had lots of people gawking at it was Clark Rosenstengel’s twin-turbo, LS-powered Camaro.  This thing sounded like an un-muffled, big-inch big-block.  Despite being setup for drag racing it managed to easily earn its way into the 200mph club.  He says he’s bringing it back to shoot for 230.

Quietly slipping into staging Sunday morning was the number 9320 Mustang.  This very-impressive piece of work is powered by a twin-turbo small-block Ford and won the Super Street class for the Hot Rod Top-speed Challenge with a run of 222mph through the traps.  I expect this thing to go quicker.

Lastly we’ve got to mention Ransom Holbrook and his resetting of the all-time top speed for a nitrous assisted motorcycle.  His unassuming gray bike went 244mph early Saturday morning.  Wow.

Remember me talking about diversity…?  How about a turbocharged Ford FE in a RX7…  Awesome.

Enjoy the photos.
