Deep Stage Episode 2: Hot Takes, Controversy, and More Unflinching Truth Inside The NHRA Drag Racing World

Deep Stage Episode 2: Hot Takes, Controversy, and More Unflinching Truth Inside The NHRA Drag Racing World

We’re back with a second episode of the NHRA’s new internet chat show, “Deep Stage” this is an honest and unflinching look at the world of drag racing from the inside out. Lewis Bloom, Whit Bazemore, and I all talk about what’s on our mind, who’s up and who’s down, along with the important topics of the day in the sport. Whit and I get tangled up in a debate over the need for personality in drag racing versus driver skill. We both have our own ideas about what’s more important at the end of day for the sport to succeed.

We talk about who had the worst starts of the season in Pomona, who impressed us the most, and perhaps most importantly whether or not the NHRA is actually going to let us speak our minds and drop truth bombs that they may not agree with. (Spoiler alert: Yes and we prove it).

There’s some stuff in this show that may make your jaw hit the floor, may make you shake your fist, or may make you want to take an angry jab at one (or all three) of us. We’re game because if there is one thing that we need more of in NHRA drag racing it’s wide open conversation with a topic and an opinion…whether you agree with it or not.

I watched this yesterday, good stuff Brian. This is a nice breathe of fresh air from very guarded, PC, don’t rock the boat NHRA ethos of the past few years. Bazemore’s take on Tony Schumacher was eye opening.

Tony Schumacher is a driving machine.

Carisma be dammed. You hire a driver to drive and win. Playing nice should always be secondary to the task at hand. Driving the car is not an additional duty.

Brian, I rarely watch all of a podcast of any kind for any subject.

I watched every second of these.

If it remains unfiltered I will keep watching.

We all love drag racing and watching drag racing and at the end of the day that’s what brings us together despite our differences.

    Topics:
factory showdown needs to become prostock.
    pro class vehicles need names.
require everyone to deep stage once during an event.

As for the drivers we need….
The dennis andersons, john forces, stevie jacksons, and scotty cannons.

    Whit Bazemore for president 2024.

    Love this stuff.

I’ve been an avid listener to the Insider podcast and noticed you skirt around some issues, presumably because you’re on NHRA payroll. So to go all “rock the boat” on this is great to see. Sometimes things need to be said in public.

It\’s not pro stock anymore it\’s altered Camaro . Factory showdown is what pro stock is supposed to be.
