Grudge racing is something that I have learned a lot about over the last few years while attending races like Lights Out and No Mercy. The culture, the people, the rules and regulations, all of that stuff were completely foreign to me until I started going to Georgia. One thing I did know is the fact that there’s often loads of money riding on these matchups and that the secrecy and protection of not only a car’s combo, but its performance numbers is paramount. That is especially true where there is $150,000 on the line. That was the case on Friday night at Lights Out when the biggest dollar grudge race many of us have ever seen went down.

The players here were the Mustang known as Jason X and the Corvette known as Ghost. Both with big nitrous engines, both with awesome drivers, and both with their eyes locked on a massive cash prize for the winner. One shot, one kill, one payday, one large pile of cash.

How serious is this stuff? Both teams sent people to the tower in order to insure that we were not somehow able to see the performance numbers of the cars as they went down the track. This was a safety measure by the teams because there was so much money on the line and we were not going to argue with them. With out announcer’s screen turned completely off and other screens having stuff taped over them, the tower was ready to look on and see who’d earn the money.

The environment was electric because everyone knew what was riding on this race. With the tension as thick as pea soup, both guys started their burnouts and off they went. This video shows what happened next.

There is a limit. It can only extend a certain distance from the center of the front axle. It keeps a long nose pro mod from having an advantage over a short nose, stock bodied car at the stripe.

I don\’t get the length of the stripe takers either. Do these cars also race in classes that have a spec length for them?
