While we know and understand that all things seem to tick up in value the older and more sought after they become, there are still times that we have to look at something and scratch our heads. By “we” we’re referring to the collective brain of hot rodding. Joe Jolly send us this listing for a 1987 Mustang GT. We’ll start by saying that it is a nice car.
The interior looks like it has never had a human in it, the paint was redone to the tune of $12,000 which (in the photos anyway) seems to indicate that the job was done even better than it was originally laid down by the factory. The engine is original (we think) and the only real modifications to speak of are a Bassani cat back exhaust, Griffin radiator, upgraded stereo, and that’s about it.
The seller is pitching this thing as completely original and having never been modified for performance. We think that the bolt-ons refute that claim but that’s just us. The AC system has been overhauled, the transmission gone through, and like we said, this thing looks like it has lived in a hermetically sealed bubble for its life. It is THAT nice.
So, does this car match the sellers claim and the seller’s asking price? Fox bodies are stupid popular still and less of them look as nice as this one does. is it $12,500 nice?
You tell us.
This era of nostalgia is hot right now, the \’Stang does look fresh off a Vanilla Ice video shoot, and someone may even pay close to the asking.
But to answer your question from a performance angle, no, it\’s not worth it.
Might be worth $10,500 from classic lovers. But not from performance people. A beauty though.
$12K paint job! Why? First of all its an automatic which is down on the fun factor and I’ve seen these in my area for half the price. Granted these didn’t have premium paint the poster boy GT has, but they looked just as nice.
Interior worn. I\’m sure needs suspension work. Automatic. $7k max
Another Michigan rock salt special ? Pass…. Wonder what he’s been vapin’ …
Porno Red interior immediately drops the value 50% It also begs the question, if the asking price is 12,500 and it has 12K in paint/body does that mean it\’s a really shiny $500 car?

…same thing I was thinking. $12k paint job and asking $12,500.
Who wants a stock anything? I\’ll never understand.
That era mustang is pulling crazy money like that in Pittsburgh pa
The guy spent 12.5k on paint but he couldn’t fix the ashtray door??? I bet he didn’t do shit except a really nice detail job.
Is just me or does all the hard plastic interior seem a bit too glossy.. Like just got done spray painting the plastic kinda glossy.. The give away is the consul arm rest doesn’t match the rest of the interior..
Maybe that interior was part of that 12k paint job…. crack pipe.
My least favorite style mustang from the 80-90’s. I preferred the LX 5.0. But, to each their own. I had a 85 GT…fun ride.
Seem really high today.
Five years from now it’ll seem like a smoking deal.
