Napierville BOOM! Watch This Camaro Blow Its Hood Off When Trying To Restart At The Strip

If there is one thing that stinks for nitrous racers it is when their car quits, the nitrous is still flowing and they hit the starter button. This is evidenced clearly by the guy in the video below because the situation as described happens to him and because he has the throttle blades open he blows the hood off instead of exploding his intake manifold apart (if it were sheet metal). The force of the explosion and the blast created by it, amplified by the small opening all of the violence travels through makes the hood launch all the more impressive.

Obviously what we are seeing here is the fuel in the intake manifold being ignited and the ferocity of the whole situation is enhanced by the nitrous. Many people think that the nitrous is the root cause and those people are 100% wrong. Once the fire party gets started the nitrous jumps in and makes things more exciting. The term “nitrous explosion” is actually a misnomer. The proper way to describe it is as a manifold explosion because that’s exactly what it is and the force is very clearly demonstrated here.

Now, if the throttle blades had been closed, that pressure would have found its way out some other way and that can be even more ugly. As impressive as this whole scene looks, the guy got out the easy way because he had his foot down when it happened.

Also, Napierville Dragway where this was filmed in located in the French speaking region of Canada and is a neat little strip. It is part of NHRA division one and they host all kinds of fun races up there. We’ve spent some time at the place and it is a party!

I know anytime I see an explosion/fireball I always run over and stick my head in whatever blew up to see what happened. The Mustang in the other lane likely lost control and crashed anyway. Hope the LS engine in the Mustang is ok!
