NHRA Sanair 1972: Wally, Grumpy, Buster, Linda Vaughn, the Last Winning Front Engine Top Fueler, and More!

NHRA Sanair 1972: Wally, Grumpy, Buster, Linda Vaughn, the Last Winning Front Engine Top Fueler, and More!

(Photos by Bob Boudreau) – Our historic deluge of photos featuring the groovy and awesome 1972 NHRA Le Grandnational held at Sanair Super Speedway in Canada continues! Bob Boudreau was awesome enough to let me know that he had found another 180+ photos from the event and he shared them all with us. We have been rolling them out day by day for you to enjoy and we’re pretty sure that this is the best batch yet. I mean c’amon…look below and deny that!

These particular photos are cool because there are several candids of Wally Parks, Linda Vaughn, Buster Couch, and Grumpy Jenkins that capture them while “acting natural” during a race weekend. It is awesome to see Wally in the tower and down on the starting line ruling the roost as he did for so many years. I am all the more regretful in never meeting him when I see images like this. Linda Vaughn looks spectacular as always in these photos and we see her both in the luxury box of the tower and cruising the return road hanging onto that big ol’ Hurst shifter as she did for so many years at so many tracks.

Art Marshall is finally shown in these photos driving the black dragster that he’d ultimately take to the winner’s circle on this weekend. Closing the books forever on front engine dragster victories in top fuel at NHRA national events. This kids, is history!
