Les Mayhew, the drag racing film making maven was at the Saturday Night Nitro event at Bakersfield last weekend and while he was there he shot a ton of video featuring the various classes that were being contested. In typical fashion, he did a fantastic job and captured a lot of good stuff, including the massive blower explosion that Pure Heaven experienced on the starting line and a Nitro Harley barfing a head gasket and spewing fire all over the rider. On the non-destructive side, the video shows the great runs from all of the fuel burning categories that assaulted The Patch last weekend.

The cool thing about the show is that Bakersfield charges $25 per car load of people so you can jam your pals into a wagon or mini-van and have plenty of money for beer and nachos left over at the strip. The other cool thing is that California has so many nitro burning cars with the pent up need to run that they can pack the place with cars and those cars bring in a bunch of people and all of a sudden it is just like the old days all over again. Saturday Night Nitro is becoming a Bakersfield tradition and that’s pretty awesome.
