Oh, Look…A Bird: Brian Ambrosini’s Vertical Shot At The Byron Wheelstanding Competition

Oh, Look…A Bird: Brian Ambrosini’s Vertical Shot At The Byron Wheelstanding Competition

This might be the most infamous AMC Gremlin in history. Bright orange, Auto Drag wheels, and battle scarred beyond reproach. More people have seen the underside of this car than they have ever seen of the taillights. Brian Ambrosini’s wheelstanding Gremlin has been a symbol of the World Power Wheelstanding Event held annually at Byron Dragway, and for 2020, he did the only thing he knows how to do with the Kammback’d Kenosha screamer: point the nose skyward while burying his foot on the loud pedal for everything it’s got. And yes, it’s worthy of the Kenosha title, because Ambrosini’s car is all AMC. The 401 underneath that scoop has enough power to flip that Gremmie over into a somersault if he isn’t too careful with the power, but “careful” isn’t what Ambrosini is all about. The entire point of this car, as it has existed for what feels like a couple of decades now, is for the chop-back Hornet to line up, rev up and point up for as long as possible. No sissy sticks out of the back to save grace, either…the rear bumper has to be about half the thickness it should have been from the factory, as many times as he’s ground it down on the track surface!

This isn’t the Gremlin’s first wreck and it won’t be the last, we feel.

Did he repay Snap On the 300k he owes them? I have zero sympathy for anyone who steals tools. Not from a manufacturer and definitely not from a person who uses them. He only got a year in prison.
