Ohio Mile Coverage: More Flyin’ Cars and Bikes From The ECTA’s First Meet!

Ohio Mile Coverage: More Flyin’ Cars and Bikes From The ECTA’s First Meet!

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Here’s the second batch of photos our camera’s caught at the Spring Ohio Mile.  Normally my 15-yr-old son, Taylor, accompanies me to events and shoots some really good stuff.  He enjoys talking to the racers and impresses them with his knowledge.  This time he came along, but so did my 10yr-old, Tyler.  Tyler didn’t take a lot of photos, but he did get some good ones and there are examples of his work in all four articles we assembled.  Both sons got a great experience riding in the JMRE entry push truck.  Both of them are still talking about that.  One of the things we like most about land speed racing is the great folks and the incredible diversity of vehicle makes and methods of making power.  In this gallery alone you’ve got power coming from Studebaker, Nissan, flathead Ford, Y-block Ford, GM LS, small-block Chevy, small-block Ford, big-block Chevy, GM V6, and a Chrysler four.  There was even an engine-swapped Honda Insight.  Crazy great stuff.

First-timer Alan Flora brought out his gorgeous Chevy Beretta drag car out to give this top-speed stuff a try.  He went through his licensing runs like clockwork.  On his last run he was really hauling the mail at around ¾ mile (well over 200mph) and let out.   This thing is really something to something to watch in the future.

Enjoy the photos.
