(Photos by David Whealon) – Since we have been talking about the end of the NHRA season, the end of the SCTA season, and ignoring the end of the NASCAR season today we thought it was only right that we run David Whealon’s great photos from the end of the PDRA season which date from a while back but are still great. The PDRA had a successful first year as a sanctioning body in 2014 and while the crowds didn’t always jam the stands there were always stout fields of racers who showed up to get after it during the eighth mile events that were held during the 2014 campaign. The final race of the season turned out to be a long one, due to weather issues at Virginia Motorsports Park. All that being said, the racers that gutted out the wet weekend didn’t disappoint when it came to the competition end of things. The racing was as hot and heavy as it had been all season.
David Whealon was there with his trusty picture making machine and while he didn’t take up residence in the pits for the duration of the event, he got some great action photos before things got wet and wooly in Virginia. One of the things we really like about the PDRA is the quality and variety of cars that attend. The top divisions like Pro Boost, Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, and the mountain motor pro stock cars put on a great show and they are nearly all adorned with colorful paint schemes, cool names, and the drivers of said cars have the same bombastic personalities.
The 2015 PDRA schedule is out so we’ll see how things go for the organizations second go around. They have the funding to keep rolling, hopefully they start to see some more spectator and fan support for their awesome brand of eighth mile racing!
I’m not sure why Nitrous cars get a weight and displacement break here. Isn’t NOX just as potent a power adder as blowers? Given that I can run unlimited cubes and only have to weigh about 2400 lbs…who would choose a blower?
They run in different categories. Nitrous with nitrous and the blower stuff with the blower stuff.
Interesting. So I guess it’s different than when I used to watch them run under IHRA on ESPN. That was…geez…the ’90’s LOL
