Please Be Real: Anybody Want A Cheap Chevrolet Chevette Drag-Race Pickup?

One of my highest moments of sheetmetal butchery came at the expense of a 1979 Ford Fiesta. The hapless little econocar wasn’t in that bad of shape, but it wasn’t in great shape either. The options were simple: kill it, sell it on, or make it more useful. Killing it wasn’t right…the Fiesta wasn’t pretty, but it did run well. Selling it wasn’t an option…in 1996, you couldn’t give those things away, it seemed. So, out came the Sawzall and off went the better part of the little Ford’s head, turning the Micro Machine into a mini-pickup. And I learned to love that little pygmy goat of a car…so useful, so economical, and always a point of discussion at a gas pump.

This 1985 Chevrolet Chevette has had it’s head lopped off too, but there’s a lot more that’s been done. A .030 over 350 got shoehorned into the engine bay, a Powerglide got jammed underneath the T-car, and out back a a narrowed 9-inch with 3.50 gears turns noise and violence from the engine bay into sheer terror for whoever feels brave enough to stab the throttle in this econo-car gone dark. We have to wonder…how far off of street duty is the Chevette? Imagine rolling this one into your local show…

Might be a problem registering it since the title status says Parts Only.
I’d love to make a “street freak” out of it.
