Pontiac Power! This Iron Block, Kauffman Headed, Blown Ram Air III Engine Ran 8.0s In A Dragster – Ooga Booga!

This is totally flipping awesome. We love when guys throw their heart, soul, and wallet into doing something different in racing. Hell, it is one of the foundational reasons that we love the world of Bonneville and land speed racing. People go off into the cabbage with crazy ideas and engineering. In drag racing there are still guys who do things that hard way and we love them all. This engine is a perfect example of doing it differently and doing it right. You are looking at an iron block, Kauffman headed, blown Ram Air III Pontiac engine that powered a slingshot dragster to 8.0s in the quarter mile. How awesome is this?! When is the last time you have seen a literal full effort Pontiac build on this level. No compromises, no Chevy pretending to be a Pontiac…actual Pontiac power.

The engine makes a little more than 800hp when it is set on kill and it displaces 462ci. The guy who owns the engine built it himself and the thing really is an anvil. Based off of a Ram Air 3 block, it has a Forged Eagle crank, and Engle camshaft, 10.5:1 compression (it runs on alcohol) and Kauffman 74cc heads that flow 325 CFM. There is an exhaustive list of parts that went into the engine and all of the extra stuff that it comes with as well. The blower is a Littlefield 8-71.

What should it go into? Hell, we’d like to see it in a steel bodied car where it would be slower but still awesomely neat. Stick it in an early 1960s Tempest and have at it Tameless Tiger style. Put it into a 1964 GTO and go all Mystery Tornado with it. Stick it in the back of a rear engine dragster and….nah, don’t do that.

Looks like it already sold, No surprise! The Poncho faithful still lurkin’ about! I’ve only owned 3 Pontiacs, a ’73 Bonneville 350 2-door, a’78 305 Phoenix 2-door, and a ’97 Sunfire 2-door, but they were the most dependable (Sunfire), beloved cars of any I’ve ever owned. I’d take any one of ’em back to this day. RIP, Pontiac!
