Project Malibuuhoo, the Chevrolet Malibu that Christian Damgaard, Andy Warren, Ben Snodgrass, and Steve and Jacob Weigl have been thrashing on for Drag Week 2017, looked to be ready for tuning. The turbocharged 5.3L was awake and making noise and the only thing left to do was to put the A/G body onto the dyno and to get the adjustments made before the car made the trip to Cordova, Illinois to kick off a week of fun. Many late nights and long thrash sessions have already gone into Malibuuhoo’s build, and the guys were more than ready to see the Chevy put down some numbers at London Chassis Dyno in London, Kentucy, under the guidance of tuner Chad Epperson.
It put down something, alright.
What you are seeing is the result of two broken pistons in the Malibu’s 5.3L. Currently there is a major thrash going on as Damgaard, Snodgrass and any and all hands available try to get another 5.3 built in time for the Malibu to make it to the track in time. It’s Saturday night as I write this…will they make it to Cordova for tech on Sunday? We will be watching and they will be wrenching.
SUNDAY UPDATE: It lives! The all-night thrash session paid off and the Malibu is on it’s way to Cordova, much to the relief of everyone who has been involved in this car!
