RacingJunk Find: This Ray Barton Hemi Cranks Out 1,200hp With Some Spray

When it comes to engines and the names associated with them, few are more entwined than Ray Barton and the Chrysler hemi. This is a guy who has been cranking them out of his Robesonia, Pennsylvania based shop for decades and has assembled, engineered, and modified hundreds, if not thousands of them. We’re loving this killer 572ci unit that sports a single four barrel carb and nitrous oxide to really get the party started in the induction system.

The mystery here is whether or not this engine has ever been sprayed. We suspect not. Why? The 1,200hp rating actually seems low for what this combo is especially because the nitrous system is rated for 400hp. There’s no chance that this combo N/A is only making 800hp so that leads us to think that the listed horsepower numbers are from some non-nitrous injected dyno pulls.

With an Indy block, a 1,200 CFM carb, a set of Stage V heads, Bill Miller rods, and a load of awesome parts, this is a hardcore engine that we’re kind of in love with. The price tag? Also hardcore. You’ll need to shell out $30,000 to own this lump and depending on how fast you want to go and what the class rules are, that could be smart money.

We’ll just be over here seeking another $24,000.
