Ride Along INSIDE The Cockpit Of Challenger II At 317 MPH With Danny Thompson – Super Informative Video

Ride Along INSIDE The Cockpit Of Challenger II At 317 MPH With Danny Thompson – Super Informative Video

There are cool Bonneville videos and then there are COOL BONNEVILLE VIDEOS. This one falls into the second category because along with the fact that we get to ride with Danny Thompson on the salt, the video also has annotations to tell us exactly what is going on while we’re in the car. That means we get to see and understand the fire up procedure, we get a good look at the pre-start crew communication, and we also get to see Danny drive the car down the salt, including a sweet view of the Racepak speedometer that climbs from 200-300mph darned quick! The run is very controlled and frankly we someday hope to own a car that shifts into second gear at more than 250mph That part cracked us up big time. Second gear at 250+….wowsers!

The car looks like it drives very well and Thompson makes controlled steering adjustments throughout the run as the long car accelerates on the salt. Nothing herky-jerky or weird happened and all. The whole thing looked to be torn right out of the “how to drive 317mph and look like a boss” textbook. All that being said, Thompson plan on going way faster with the car and things will undoubtedly get more and more “interesting” in the cockpit when the car is going 120+ mph faster, but over 300 the thing looks like a veritable Cadillac!

This is one of the few streamliner videos that actually tells you what is happening inside the car and that makes it really neat. You’ll dig this look at what goes on inside a 300mph car on the salt!

Its amazing how long the procedure is when starting one of these LSR!

Danny has great throttle control by the sound of the engines. They barely seem to be breaking a sweat! It would be easy for me to just mash the pedal! And of course spin out of control!
