Ride In An Opel For A Ripping Frozen Run At The Merrill Ice Drags! This Thing Is Greatness

Ride In An Opel For A Ripping Frozen Run At The Merrill Ice Drags! This Thing Is Greatness

(Video by Jacob Marshall) – Alright, we have showed you photos, we have showed you video outside of the cars of the Merrill Ice Drags, and now we’re taking you into the cockpit of an ice drag machine. This car happens to be a very hairy Opel GT and thanks to Jacob Marshall we have this footage of the machine flying down the eighth mile, all ice course on a frozen lake in Wisconsin. The spiked tires provide the traction and the driver provides the heavy right foot for this unique form of drag racing.

This thing seems to hustle through the eighth in about seven seconds or so. That’s moving on asphalt but completely awesome on course make of bourbon cooling material. This isn’t some new fad that started a couple years ago, this is a sport that has been thriving for long about a half century with the men and women at Merrill. Because it has been going on for so long, the cars have evolved and people have totally figured out what works and what doesn’t. Clearly the setup in this Opel is working. You can hear the thing really working and digging pretty hard at half track and beyond so the fact that this car was never fully “hooked up” makes the whole thing seem even more awesome.

We’re jealous of Jacob’s trip and we need to book ourselves a visit to this madness next year. Hey it may make for a good live stream, right?

My battery was running low, that’s why the tach wasn’t working and yes I never see it!
