American Powertrain Parting Shift: Ripping Gears In A 550hp 1968 Mustang With A TKO

We live in a world where everyone wants to have a 1,000hp street car that does not break and can get them to work every day. While it seems comical that even 20 years ago 400hp was some big time stuff, the reality is that very few people will ever have four digit horsepower under their foot and this video is proof that it’s no reason to be ashamed. Below you will ride along with a driver in a Tremec TKO 500 equipped 1968 Mustang that makes 550hp and rips the strip gleefully. If you watch this video and think that the guy was lacking in fun, we’re going to question your sanity.

This dude clearly did not have shit shift light programmed because it is basically illuminated the whole run. That being said, he dutifully shifts his car at 6,500 rpm at each gear and it is well executed. This dude is not granny shifting the thing. Nope, he is smashing it perfectly gear to gear and that’s exactly why we’re thinking that he’s having more fun than anyone.

Watch the video below and enjoy the sounds and the speed of this 550hp 1968 Mustang. What’s the engine combo? Who cares?

Press play below to see how much fun 550hp can be with a stick on the strip –
