Rocky Mountain Race Week 2019: Riding Through The Storms Into Nebraska!

Driving through the Rocky Mountain landscape between Pueblo Motorsports Park and Bandimere Speedway is already quite tough on a field of 200 race machines that are doing their best impersonation of a street car. But the next leg of the journey would be even more trying: after leaving the Denver Metro, it’s time for the racers of the 2019 Rocky Mountain Race Week to head east into prairie country and to make a beeline to Kearney, Nebraska for the third race event of the week. The over 400 mile journey isn’t insignificant…sure, the roads are a bit flatter and they are dropping out of the elevation and back into richer air, but that doesn’t equate to smooth sailing for everyone. Putting that kind of mileage on a highly-strung race machine with plates on heightens the risk for something to break, whether it be big or small. That boils down to simple luck and statistics, though, and everyone who hits the highway knows that rule.

And that isn’t half of the trouble. The other half are drenching thunderstorms. If you’ve driven across the middle of North America during early summer, there’s no doubt been a moment where you’ve encountered sheets of rain and booming thunder. Again, in a normal car this isn’t so much of a problem, but big, steamroller-type tires on the back already have enough to do maintaining hundreds or even thousands of horsepower without the fun of slippery asphalt and hydroplaning. Cautious driving is key…RMRW 2019 offers up plenty of ways to go fast, but nobody wants to be the photo opportunity when their car has to be yanked out of some muddy grass or out of a ditch!

1320Video has plenty of good coverage, so if you weren’t able to make it this year or you are interested in seeing what RMRW looks like, stay tuned! Meanwhile, hit the road with Kyle and crew by pressing play below:
