Scott Palmer and The NHRA Top Fuel Cat Spot Team Had A Runner Up Celebration For The Ages On Sunday Night In Phoenix

Scott Palmer is one of NHRA top fuel drag racing’s unlikely and awesome heroes. The guy has worked for the majority of his life to get where he is today in the sport and he’s honestly living the dream that he bled and thrashed for. With sponsorship from Cat Spot and by working closely with guys like Bobby and Dominic Lagana along with his own dedicated and talented team, Palmer has a top fuel car that can literally run with the best of them now. In fact, he made the finals in Phoenix for the first time in his career and while he did not win the race, he sure as hell won the post race!

After the final, the team dragged the car back and serviced it in the pits like it was going to make another hit. They then gathered all of their friends and whatever fans remained in the evening and fired that sucker up. Bobby Lagana was on throttle blade control and you’ll see how insanely responsive one of these 11,000hp engines is. With repeated throttle whacks, the celebration reached a fever pitch. The way that the guys are all jumping around and losing their minds is perfect.

Scott has gone from a guy who’s simply overjoyed to be at the track to a guy with a consistent car to a guy who has a car that can and likely will win a race this year. It is an awesome story and we love these dudes. Just the joy that they have and the appreciation for the fans that they show is amazing. Remember, Palmer is the only guy left that does the “throttle whack” on his normal warmups in the pits. No one else does it anymore for fear that it is doing more harm than good to the clutch. Now that Scott’s “bringing back the whack” and winning rounds, maybe that’ll change!

It is great to see someone who really enjoys drag racing (especially nitro racing) being successful. I watched the coverage this weekend and loved his comment to the top end reporter when she asked him about his success “Makes you want to get a cat” – referring to his sponsor. Priceless.

That sucks nobody does the “throttle whack” anymore. Hopefully when the race comes to Virginia in June, I can hear the Cat team do this during the warm up!

    Don’t let me down Scott!

Scotty says he does this for the fans, and won’t ever stop doing this. He knows it hurts the performance but doesn’t care. Every time we come back to Pomona, the crowd gets bigger and bigger around him. I can only imagine the chaos in the pits when he wins this year.
