Dodge has released the second in a promised multi-week campaign of teaser videos leading up to the public debut of the 2018 Challenger Demon at the New York Auto Show in April. This beastly car has been the subject of much gearhead speculation over the last days and weeks with theories about its potential power and performance being all over the map.
This video was accompanied by a release that states the car will lose 200lbs of weight over its relative, the Hellcat. That still puts it at over 4,000lbs but with people whispering in our ear that the cat will run 9s from the factory, who cares about weight, right?
Here’s the wording from the release:
When the Demon makes its New York City debut in April, it will be more than 200 pounds lighter than its current Hellcat brother.
Based on the clues given in the video, “adjustments” have been made to the wheels, steering, suspension, brakes, interior construction and components.
So if we take those rather bland words and translate them into hot rodder speak, what do we surmise? Wheels are a pretty easy way to shave weight, suspension leads us to believe that there will be some pretty trick fabricated stuff holding this car up, brakes will likely be of a drag race style, and the interior “construction and components” line really has us thinking. If we look back to the previous video called “caged” and compare it to this one, it seems like this car will be coming from the factory with a roll cage in it. We’d guess that there will be no back seat and that the two remaining seats will be lightweight racing style pieces.
There’s no mention of the giant scoop that the hood of the car seems to contain in this video either. We’re sure that will be revealed in a coming piece when the whole of the body modifications are teased.
Interesting stuff for sure! Will this be a 9.99, 999hp factory car like some think?
curious if this an actual street car or track only like a new copo or cobra jet?
