Seven Seconds And Ready For War: John Faraone’s Valiant Charger Is Up To It’s Normal Tricks At Perth Motorplex!

One of Australia’s more well-known imports to the States is John Faraone’s 1975 Valiant Charger R/T. You can’t miss the silver missile…just off of the top of my head I only know of one other Aussie Charger anywhere in the States, and maybe two more Aussie Mopars of any type on this side of the Pacific. If you’re a car guy, you know what you’re looking at: a visual knock of the classic Charger R/T paint scheme on a big-tired street car that is pushing 2,500 plus horsepower and is only modified for the sake of racing…it’s all steel and it’s all there, all 4,100-ish pounds of it. If you don’t know Aussie cars and you set eyes on it, the Charger is something else to behold: the all-rectangle grille that has Mopar flavors but in a way that just doesn’t look quite familiar, a body shape that doesn’t quite line up with any known ChryCo product, and a tail that doesn’t line up with anything else. I might see the pitchforks and torches for this one, but I see a lot of similarity between the Ford Maverick and an Aussie Charger from the doors backwards.

No matter your take, though, one thing you must know about this car is that it is sinister fast. Remember, this is a two-ton Australian Mopar…mid-seven second blasts are it’s normal area of operations and it’s blasted out a 7.37@195 MPH on Drag Week with 22 PSI of boost blowing through it’s big block Chrysler plant. The engine is rumored to be able to take up to 50 PSI, so don’t trust those numbers…as long as the traction is there, Farone can dial up the Charger to whatever he’s comfortable with to make the dance from Point A to Point B all that much shorter.

The Charger has been in the States for a while for Drag Week and related deals, but is back in Western Australia, where it went ripping down the strip at Perth Motorplex. The silver monster hasn’t lost it’s stride, it seems!

I met John at the 2017 Drag Week at Gateway Motorsports Park, he is a class act, he also owns some American Mopar muscle down under.
