Someone Hand Built A Two Door 1965 Buick Sportwagon Hard Top And Now You Can Buy It

BangShifter Matt Munger sent an email the other night that suggested we may be interested in showing a Buick wagon he had stumbled upon for sale on CL in Arizona. Because our readers are just like us, I was expecting to see something unique, different, and probably beyond all hope of saving. Instead, I was presented with one of the most awesome phantom “one of none” jobs I think I have ever seen. This is a two door 1965 Buick sportwagon hard top and the guy wants $50,000 for it. Of course it isn’t worth $50,000 but let’s think about the hours and the work that went into this! If we did the work we’d probably want $150,000 for it and the thing wouldn’t be a quarter as nice. Not to whack you in the the old ruby pouch, but it is powered by a Chevy 350 which is backed by a 700R4. Yeah, we just heard at least one Buick guy say words that he mom would be angry about.

Buick Sportswagons are cool no matter if they are early 1964-67 cars or all the way up to the late (and kind of cool now) 1978-1980 Century Sportwagons. The 1964-67 cars were produced on the A-body frame, carried a 120″ wheelbase, and had the cool tinted glass panels on the roof. They also had four doors. All of them. We’re not sure how the grafting process was done here and what parts were used but from the photos, it looks expert level to us, anyway.

The price is kind of loopy but the rest of it is very, very good. We’d get it home, immediately source a 400 engine and set to work getting this thing Buick powered. It is the only proper way, right?

I’m curious if he started with a 64-65 2 door Malibu wagon. Cool looking car though but yea $50K is a pipe dream.

Why do you think my mom would be upset at the words I said? she saw it and made a rather blunt assessment of the parentage of the owner, their bedroom activities, their choice in mates, and that their use of oxygen is inappropriate.

Personally, I think it’d be a great ride for Chad.

Well..if you really really want a 2 door hardtop 1965 Buick wagon..how much would it cost to build one?

    Not 1 of 1…

And I’ve seen a red one too, both Buick powered. That Autotrader one is probably where he got his price though the L67 swap is far more interesting and likely powerful than the 350.

Cool car but I’d give $35K for it max and immediately junk the 350 and TH700R4 for a 300 based shortdeck 350 Buick stroker (another Buick should have done) and a TH200-4R as a nod to the modern.
